The story behind OptiPic
OptiPic started from a simple frustration: modern smartphone cameras produce incredible photos, but the file sizes are enormous. A single photo can easily be 5–10MB, and if you take a lot of pictures, storage fills up fast.
The existing tools either required complex installations, sent your images to cloud servers, or simply didn't compress well enough. I wanted something that was dead simple: drop your images in, get dramatically smaller files out, with no quality loss visible to the human eye.
The HEIC format was the key. It achieves outstanding compression — far better than JPEG — but support on Windows has always been fragmented. OptiPic solves this by bundling a complete HEIC codec directly, so it works on any Windows machine without any setup.
